Performances by Big Brass Bed, whose sound is pure Dylan, have been described as "a rollicking blend of blues, folk, country and other roots-living styles. The finely tuned band and brainchild of lead vocalist Rod MacDonald, is a collaboration of an all star cast of well-known south Florida musicians including drummer Bill Meredith, lead guitarist John Smotherman, and Dave Trull or Charlie Gonzalez on bass. Other musicians who on occasion perform with Big Brass Bed are guitarist James London and guitarist and keyboardist Mike Kerrigan.
Big Brass Bed, which has released their first cd of the same name, honors the legendary rock icon Bob Dylan, performing their renditions of Dylan's classics, hit songs, well-loved tunes, and often-requested more obscure songs during Dylan's 40-year career.
Rod, whose music was greatly influenced by early Dylan, is considered one of the few singer/songwriters well-versed enough to accurately interpret Dylan's deep, thought-provoking lyrics. "...Dylan addressed deeper ideas for me .. his singing isn't just about hitting the right notes. And that makes it so much more fun to learn his songs. We do a cross between Dylan's own folk-rock versions and whatever suits this band" ... says Rod.
A t typical concert will include "From A Buick 6", "One More Cup Of Coffee", "Subterranean Homesick Blues", "Don't Think Twice It's Allright", "She Belongs To Me", "Shelter From The Storm", "Tom Thumb's Blues", "Lay Lady Lay", "License To Kill", and their rousing bring-down-the house rendition of "Like A Rolling Stone".
Equally adept at Dylan's politically-charged rockers like "Hurricane" and subtle, gospel-tinged ballads like "I Shall Be Released", Big Brass Bed offers subterranean homesick blues for the new millennium.
